The Smitten Story

In her work as an infant safety expert, Amber Kroeker, MPH saw firsthand the anguish caused by infant sleep deaths. She grew increasingly frustrated by a pattern in these deaths – the majority of the infants had access to a safe-sleep space in the form of a crib or pack-n-play. Caregivers were doing their best, but as she would learn, lacked the tools they needed to keep their babies safe.
Through extensive focus group testing, Mrs. Kroeker discovered that traditional sleep spaces simply weren’t portable or convenient enough. Caregivers, exhausted and overwhelmed, chose easier options – swings, bouncy seats, car seats, couches – unsafe, but convenient spaces.
Through her work, Mrs. Kroeker developed a simple, yet effective, solution: the bassinet box. Inexpensive, simple to use and eco-friendly. She was awarded an innovation grant to develop a research-backed American bassinet box. She partnered with a world-renowned packaging program at a leading Michigan university for development and product testing.
After three years of development, collaboration, and rigorous testing, Smitten is the infant sleep box that puts research-based infant safety at the forefront.
